SANFORD–Steve Stroud, a key player in the Performing Arts Center and other key real estate ventures in North Carolina, told Chamber of Commerce officials Thursday that as long as Sanford has an ample supply of water  and sewer, “we will have a decided advantage over other counties in economic development.”  Stroud, CEO of NAI Carolantic Realty, said the “taxpayers of Lee County paid for this utility-why should they pay for another county to reap the benefits.”  Stroud said “he who has the water, rules economic development.”  Sanford is in discussions with Chatham County on selling water and sewer to the neighboring county.
