Randy Bachman, lead guitarist and songwriter for the hugely popular Canadian rock bands The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, will receive a major honor in his home country this September.  The veteran musician has been chosen as one of the 2012 inductees for Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Bachman will be recognized at a September 22 ceremony in Toronto.  The rocker will enter the Walk of Fame along with a list of fellow honorees that includes folk rocker Sarah McLachlan, late Saturday Night Live star Phil Hartman and the entire Team Canada hockey team of 1972, which made history when it beat the Soviet Union.

Randy received the honor thanks to the votes of his countrymen and women, 30,000 of whom submitted their votes for who they thought should be inducted.

This actually will be the second time Bachman will be acknowledged by Canada’s Walk of Fame, as The Guess Who were inducted back in 2001.  Other Canadian musicians previously honored by the Walk of Fame include Guess Who frontman Burton Cummings, Neil Young, Rush, Joni Mitchell, Steppenwolf‘s John Kay, The Band‘s Robbie Robertson, Bryan Adams and ex-Red Rider singer Tom Cochrane.
