With the upcoming 2012 Summer Olympics being held in London, organizers are planning to showcase many of the legendary artists who have emerged from the U.K., including, of course, The Beatles.
Now NBC, which is airing the games in the U.S., has also paid tribute to the Beatles with a series of ads featuring U.S. athletes walking across London’s Abbey Road, in homage to the cover of the Fab Four’s classic 1969 album.
Among the Olympians depicted in the ad campaign, titled “The Road to London,” are swimmer Michael Phelps, basketball player Maya Moore, volleyball player Logan Tom and members of the U.S.’s wrestling, water polo, gymnastics and soccer teams. As previously reported, Paul McCartney is slated to perform during the finale of the opening ceremonies and word has it some of the Fab Four’s tunes will be included on the sports extravaganza’s official playlist.
