SANFORD–Over 3,000 residents across the city were without power following a thunderstorm Wednesday evening that began shortly after 5 pm. Heavy rain was followed by high wind, thunder and lightning. The storm knocked out electrical power, phone and internet service, and resulted in fallen trees, power lines and flooding. Progress Energy employees worked throughout the evening to restore power. It was anticipated that all power would be restored by 10 pm.
