On the heels of announcing the October 11 opening of his art exhibition in New York City, Graham Nash has now revealed plans to launch a new display of his “photographic assemblages” on September 1 in at the Gallery 169 in Santa Monica, California.  The exhibit, titled “This Could Be You,” will feature a dozen mixed-media pieces created by the folk-rock great that have never before been shown in public.  The works focus on a number of contemporary themes that have concerned Nash, who has long been known for his support of various political, social and environmental causes.

“I believe that knowledge is power, that information and ideas are vital to our very survival, that our many problems should be faced, and can be dealt with,” the singer/songwriter says in a statement.  “As an artist, I need to reflect my concerns regarding certain aspects of society facing me today…My intent is not to alienate, but to engage.  No one has to agree with me, but let’s keep an open mind.  After all, this could be you.”

Nash plans to attend an opening reception for the exhibit, which will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. PT.  Part of the money raised during the gala will go toward the Bradley Manning Support Network and the Veterans for Peace Los Angeles.

Last year, Nash released a song titled “Almost Gone,” and an accompanying video, that seeks to bring attention to the case of Manning, an Army intelligence analyst arrested in July 2010 after he allegedly supplied the WikiLeaks website with classified materials that purportedly exposed illegal activities by the U.S. military in Iraq.
