Motown producer Frank Wilson, whose credits include songs for Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The Temptations and many others, passed away September 27 from prostate cancer, ABC News Radio has confirmed. Wilson was 71.
Wilson began producing at Motown’s Los Angeles offices in the mid-1960s but soon moved to Motown’s Detroit headquarters. He even recorded a song of his own, 1965′s “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do).” However, almost all of the demos were destroyed when Wilson decided to concentrate on producing rather than performing. As a result, the handful of surviving existing copies are collectors items, one of which sold in 2009 for a reported $41,526.
After leaving Motown in 1976, Wilson continued briefly to produce R&B and soul music, including the Grammy-nominated album Motown Comes Home. He later devoted himself to Christian ministry and producing gospel music.
