A digital version of Queen‘s 2011 coffee-table book 40 Years of Queen was released on Friday and can be purchased now for $12.99 at Apple’s iBookstore. The program was designed specifically for iPad and iPad Mini devices. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Queen’s Brian May attended a press event Friday in London celebrating the arrival of electronic book, which is officially sanctioned by the band. The guitarist also participated in a presentation of the interesting features the ebook offers.
40 Years of Queen takes an in-depth look at the group’s colorful history, and includes rare photos, unreleased album art and images of a wide range of personal memorabilia from the band’s members. Among the enhanced features the ebook offers are new audio introductions from May and Queen drummer Roger Taylor, samples of the group’s many songs, “zoomable” photo galleries, an animated look at the band’s albums and an hour-long audio interview dating back to December 1977.
The interactive publication, which is the first ebook released by the band, also offers biographies of the band members, digital jigsaw puzzles and much more.
“I think this is a great advert for what ebooks may be like in the future,” says May in a statement. “It looks great, reads well and you can play with it for hours.”
Adds Taylor about the ebook, “I’ve found myself quite immersed in it, with all its interactive content — it does add a whole new dimension to the book experience. All in all, a great way to explore the fabulous and wonderful world that is Queen!”
