Home / Classic Hits News / The Rolling Stones Won't Be Playing Coachella, Source Close to Band Reveals

During the last couple months, rumors have been spreading that The Rolling Stones would be performing at the 2013 Coachella festival in Indio, California. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear as if it’s going to happen.  Rolling Stone reports that a source close to the band has revealed to the magazine that the legendary British rockers will not be playing at this year’s edition of the annual music and arts extravaganza, which is scheduled for April 12-14 and April 19-21.

Speculation about The Stones performing at Coachella began last month, when an appearance at the fest briefly popped up on a list of tour dates posted on the group’s official mobile phone app.  Adding fuel to the rumors was an enigmatic photo that was posted earlier this month on the official Coachella Facebook page.  The image shows a round stone resting in Indio’s Empire Polo Grounds, where the festival takes place.

While The Rolling Stones may not have plans to play Coachella, the band members have strongly suggested in a number of interviews that they will be hitting the road sometime this year.  Speaking with Rolling Stone following the group’s final 2012 show last month in Newark, New Jersey, guitarist Keith Richards said of a possible upcoming tour, “Really, all you’re going to have to do is wait for an announcement.”

Frontman Mick Jagger, meanwhile, told the magazine that The Stones band had been fielding “quite a few offers,” and that they they’d announce their plans “when we’ve figured it out.”
