Helen Reddy will appear alongside a variety of other celebrities at a pair of special performances of the play Surviving Grace that will benefit a number of charities supporting research into finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. The events will take place September 25 at the Stephen J. Ross Theatre in Los Angeles and September 27 at the Shiley Theatre in San Diego.
The productions will feature various stars reading the first act of the play, which was penned by comedy writer Trish Vradenburg and was based on her experiences caring for her Alzheimer’s-stricken mother. In addition to Reddy, the cast of the L.A. event will include Carol Burnett, Marilu Henner, Louis Gossett Jr. and Loni Anderson, while the San Diego production will also feature Henner and Robert Foxworth.
“As a woman, I am twice as likely as a man to get Alzheimer’s in my lifetime, and two to three times as likely to act as a caregiver to a family member with the disease,” says Helen in a statement. “Anyone who cares about women’s rights should care about finding a cure for Alzheimer’s — which is why I am so excited to be a part of this special production of Surviving Grace.”
Each fundraiser will feature a celebrity red carpet, as well as a post-performance reception with the cast members. You can buy advance tickets to the shows at SurvivingGrace.org.
Proceeds raised by the two shows will benefit the USAgainstAlzheimer’s Network, WomenAgainstAlzheimer’s and the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the University of California, San Diego.
