Last year, Cyndi Lauper hit the road for a special tour to mark the 30th anniversary of her smash debut album, She’s So Unusual. Now, the award-winning singer is reissuing the album in a special 30th anniversary edition that will include an unusual surprise.
The deluxe collection, due out April 1, will feature the original disc, as well as remixes from some of today’s hottest DJ’s and producers, and an additional disc of rare demos, B-sides and live recordings. You also also purchase a version that comprises a single CD, featuring just the original album and three remixes. A vinyl version is also available.
The surprise is what’s also included with the package: a reusable sticker set, featuring vinyl cut-outs of Lauper’s accessories and outfits that you can arrange in different combinations on a 3D fold-out backdrop of the bedroom that is seen in the video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” If you remember Colorforms from your childhood, that’s what this is like.
In a statement, Cyndi says, “I’m always looking forward, trying to do something that’s new and different, but every once in a while it’s good to look back and celebrate. I’ve always been proud of this album, with the statement we made and, most importantly, what it has meant to my fans, I want to thank them for all the years of support.”
A remix of “Time After Time” is currently streaming on People.com, and you’ll get an immediate download of it with every iTunes pre-order.
She’s So Unusual won Lauper the Grammy for Best New Artist, and also made her the first female artist to have four top 10 singles from a debut album. This Sunday, Cyndi will host the Grammy Awards pre-telecast, during which most of the evening’s awards will be handed out. She’s nominated for her work on the Broadway musical Kinky Boots.
