  • Ethics in the spotlight for commissioners

    SANFORD–Lee County Commissioners will meet in regular session at 6 PM Monday in the commissioners meeting room of the government center and one of the key items on agenda is a discussion on Ethics.  The board will consider a revision of the ethics code.   • Three Sanford men were arrested in Moore county on drug charges

    Carthage–Moore County Sheriff Lane Carter reports that three Sanford men have been arrested after the narcotics division conducted a drug investigation for the distribution of controlled prescription pills.  The arrests took place on US 15-501 in Carthage.  Agents located and seized 33 dosage units of Oxycontin prescription pills, dolophine, roxicodone, clonazapam, alpralozam, xanax, endocet prescrittion pills, over thirty-two hundred dollars in cash, and drug paraphernalia, including digital scales.  The estimated street value of the drugs seized was forty five hundred dollars.  Willie Cleo Donaldson, 49 of Horton Circle has been jailed on a $50,000 secured bond,  James Leo Quick, 42 of Overlook Court is being… Read more

  • A two year old child has died and his two siblings are in critical condition following a one vehicle accident

    MOORE COUNTY–A chevy SUV with five occupants wrecked Thursday morning around 7 am on Star road near Whispering Pines.  The three youngest children, ages 2-4-6, were air lifted to UNC hospitals in Chapel Hill, where the youngest has died.  The other two are in critical condition.  The 19 year old driver and his 12 year old sister were transported to Moore Regional Hospital where they were treated and released..  No charges have been filed.  The accident happened at 6:57 am when the vehicle drove off the road, hit a ditch, flipped multiple times, and ejected two of the children.  Three helicopters transported the three young siblings to… Read more

  • College Trustees and county officials discuss the future

    SANFORD–Trustees of Central Carolina Community College held their quarterly meeting Wednesday at an earlier time, starting at 1 pm.  County Manager John Crumpton and Commission Chairman Charlie Parks joined them to discuss, among other issues, the future of the Dennis Wicker Civic Center.   • It’s the day for love
