  • An apartment fire left two homeless, at least temporaily

    SANFORD–A fire in an apartment at Forest Ridge left a woman and her 5 year old child homeless, at least temporarily. The fire was reported around 7:15 pm and is believed to have originated on the lower level of the complex. Firefighters were on the scene for nearly three hours.   • A Sanford man has been charged with with sex offenses with a minor

    LILLINGTON–A Sanford man has been arrested on sex offenses with a minor after the parents of a 13 year old girl found inappropriate messages on her facebook that appeared to have come from an older man.   • Frigid temps delay schools’ start

    SANFORD–Bone chilling temperatures resulted in local and area school systems deciding Monday to delay the opening of school Tuesday for two hours. Schools in Lee, Chatham, Moore, Harnett, Lee Christian, Grace Christian and LCI announced the delays Monday afternoon. The COLTS program usually operates on the schools’ schedule, however, officials decided to continue the regular schedule because they had the feeling that the vans would be ok.   • The annual Dementia workshop is on tap Monday

    SANFORD–The Lee County Enrichment Center will host the annual Alzheimer’s and Dementia workshop at the Dennis Wicker Civic Center, Monday afternoon beginning at 1 pm.   • Lee County Commissioners will hold their first meeting of the year Monday with a heavy agenda

    SANFORD–A New Jersey based company wants to locate here and create a four million dollar investment in machinery, equipment and fifty jobs. The board is expected to act on the request at the meeting which will convene at 6 pm in the commissioner’s meeting room of the government center.   • Monday is D-Day for paying property taxes

    SANFORD–Local residents have until the end of the day Monday, January 6, to pay their Lee County property taxes before the bills are considered delinquent and penalties begin.
