  • Chairman and vice chairman re elected by county commissioners

    SANFORD–Lee County Commissioners wasted no time Monday afternoon in re electing Charlie Parks and Kirk Smith to their positions as chair and vice chair of the board. The meeting, at one hour and nine minutes, was the shortest meeting of the year, and included several items, including a motion by Commissioner Ricky Frazier to change the time of the monthly meetings from 6 to 4 pm to prevent the long hours that the board and the public are having to endure.   • A $5000 reward is offered in home invasion & murder case

    SANFORD–Sheriff Tracy Carter has announced that his department is offering a $5000 reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the person involved with the November 22 home invasion and murder at a HIckory Nut Court residence.   • Who will lead Lee County Commissioners for the coming year

    SANFORD–Lee County Commissioners will meet at 3 PM Monday and the first item of business will be the election of a chairman and a vice chairman for 2014. The time change of the meeting results from the annual Christmas Parade scheduled for 7 PM. Several other issues are on the agenda including a possible remedy for late tax listing.   • It’s Parade Time

    SANFORD–The Sanford Jaycees will host the annual Sanford Christmas Parade Monday evening at 7 in downtown Sanford. The Parade will follow the same route as in past years with all of the units coming up Wicker Street, turning left on Steele Street and back down Carthage Street to the final location. Hundreds of spectators are anticipated and families are encouraged to come early to get a good parking and viewing space.     SANFORD–Sanford’s new Mayor, Chet Mann, will be sworn in for a two year term Tuesday evening, but prior to that ceremony, the Mayor will be the guest of honor at Monday’s Chamber sponsored Public Policy Luncheon at the Flame.   • A person of interest has been cleared

    SANFORD–Captain Jeff Johnson of the Lee County Sheriff’s Department reports that a person of interest in connection with the Friday morning home invasion that resulted in a homicide at a home on Hickory Nut court, has been questioned and cleared.
