• More than $80k pledged for We Build People

• Thanksgiving is one week from Thursday and help is sought for feeding

  SANFORD–Many people are preparing for a big turkey dinner next Thursday, a staple for Thanksgiving.  Still, many others are wondering where their next meal is coming from.  The Bread Basket and CUOC say the food is low and help is needed.  Turkeys are needed at the Bread Basket by November 20, and next Wednesday is the last day for Thanksgiving help to be taken to CUOC.  The facility will be closed Thursday and Friday.  The Breadbasket is looking for more than 300 people to line up for a meal Thanksgiving Day.  There is also a request for sweat shirts.  Susan Rosenthal said many who come to the… Read more

• The local airport may get a face-lift

  SANFORD–Plans are on the table for a facelift for the local airport, referred to as the Raleigh Eexecutive Jetport.  The airport, home to numerous planes owned by local and area residents, is located off Farrell Road. • Trash containers will get larger

  SANFORD–Bring on the green carpet.  The city of Sanford will be rolling out new garbage containers in a few week just in time for holiday trash.  The double containers, which will be placed at each home in the city will hold much more garbage, will have wheels, and will be picked up bi-weekly.  Workers will pick up the old containers and deliver the new ones December 18. • A bridge dedication in Moore county honored a local man

  CAMERON–The North Carolina Department of Public Safety and the State Highway Patrol honored a Moore County based trooper from Lee County who died in the line of duty 50 years ago.  Patrolman Henry A. Hight, father of R. V. Hight, died in 1962 after an automobile accident.  He was attempting to aid a fellow officer when the accident occurred.  The bridge named in Hight’s honor is the southbound bridge as you enter Moore County from Lee County on U.S. 1. • Less transaction time at the Social Security office

  SANFORD–Beginning Monday, November 19, Social Security offices in North Carolina will cut back public service hours.  Offices will be open weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm through the end of the year.  Beginning January 2, all offices will close to the public at noon on Wednesdays. • A homicide supect will face a court appearance Monday
